At The Shorelines Marina Club, the quality of your log cottage begins from the foundation up. When planning and building this development, we kept two things in mind: to ensure that you get the most value for your investment and to ensure your maintenance is as low as possible. Energy efficient features have made that difference.

Cottage Style Features and Finishes

  • Solid Eastern White Pine is among the most energy efficient, renewable building material on the market. Due to its mass, it prevents temperature extremes on the outside of your cottage from affecting the temperature on the inside of your cottage. The process is known as thermal lag, which results in greater year round comfort and energy savings.
  • Thru-Bolt Log Fastening System is one of the tightest systems around to control settling. The self tightening, maintenance free, spring loaded, Thru-Bolts limit settling like no other joinery system.
  • Thermal Mass of a log home is an important factor in the overall energy efficiency of that structure and can significantly reduce a log home’s overall energy needs. This means it costs about 30% less to heat and cool a home with logs. (This research was conducted by the National Bureau of Standards.)
  • All exterior doorframes and windows are installed with a vapour barrier and fully chalked to assist in the total effectiveness of your cottages thermal envelope. Caulking and weather stripping prevents drafts and helps your cottage feel warmer when it’s cold outside and helps keep your home cooler in the summer.
  • Geothermal Heating and Cooling takes advantage of the Earth’s natural ground temperatures to provide heat during the winter and cooling during the summer. This method helps keep your maintenance costs low and is environmentally friendly.
  • EnergyStar® low e/Argon filled windows are today’s energy efficient windows, saving you money each and every month.
    • Low e (which stands for “low emissivity :”) glass is coated with a microscopic, virtually invisible, metallic oxide layer that improves thermal performance. This microscopically thin coating filters the sun’s energy during the summer and reduces heat loss in the winter. Not only does it make your windows energy efficient, it also provides protection from harmful UV rays that can fade your flooring, furniture and window coverings.
    • Argon gas is an odourless, colourless, tasteless, non toxic, inert gas, which is six times denser that air. It is used to replace air between the glass panels to reduce temperature transfer.
  • R44 Insulated Concrete Form Full Basement (ICF) - allowing your basement to stay warm and dry and creating a more truly comfortable space, in addition to keeping energy costs down.
  • R44 Roof Insulation - This reduces the rate of heat loss significantly to the environment or heat gained from the environment.
  • Endless hot water on demand provided by Rinnai tankless propane heater. Only heats the hot water that is needed, while eliminating the need for a storage tank, saving space and energy.
  • Low consumption, 6L toilets by TOTO dramatically reduce water consumption while providing reliable performance and efficiency. Studies show using 6L low consumption toilets, can save an average of 57% of water consumption compared to other models.
  • Energy Efficient shower heads significantly reduce the consumption of hot water within the home, and result in less wasted water while saving you money.
  • EnergyStar® rated exhaust fans are provided in all washrooms.
  • Wheelchair friendly 36” interior and exterior doors. Exterior doors also feature keyless entry and coach lighting.
  • Aggregate concrete finished front porch.
